Sioux Empire Show Thank You!

What a fun and great show in Sioux Falls this year!

We had so many great conversations and got to hear about the exciting building and renovation plans of so many! We are looking forward to helping create "cozy” homes with perfect lighting this year.

If you don’t know, we do so much more than lighting too!

Lighting plans. We work with electricians for installation. Lighting to accomplish tasks and sets the mood for the time of day and needs.

Bulbs. We can answer all your lighting questions and give you the home lighting you’re wishing you have! We’re excited to be offering new recessed lighting options that give you the ability to change the color temperature of recessed lighting! This is HUGE! With an app and wifi-enabled bulbs you can give your home have the perfect setting for any time of day. Shoot us your question/s; we’re happy to help you!

Other home finishings. At the request of clients, we’ve added mirrors, hardware, and stools. We help round out your home with these finishings.

Natural products. We are BIG into products that are good for you, and good for the earth. We strive to source products that are beautiful and affordable. Wool, cotton, cashmere, bamboo, mantels and tables without harsh chemicals, and more.

Small business products. We are also BIG supporters of the small businesses making products we love. They’re a win for you and a win for our communities!

I know how good lighting in the home helps us live better. I have a passion for living in a way that is good for us and in a way that’s in harmony with our world. We can’t fix it all, but we’re doing what we can.

Contributed Article to the March Home Ideas magazine

For the March electrical issue, I wrote an article on a topic that I feel passionate about - how lighting impacts how we feel, our wellbeing. The two are connected, and addressing it can give us homes that make us feel good, and productive, and restful.

Read it here! Let me know if you have questions. We’d love to make your space be the best for you!

The Crowd Spoke!

Holy cow! What an incredible weekend! If I got a chance to talk to you - thank you! I love hearing what people are doing and how I can help.

I have to give my husband an enormous thank you! He’s a teacher, and taking time off is hard for them. Monday we loaded the trailer, every evening, and then all weekend was spent at the show. Then, he’s the best sales guy! People love him. I appreciate him following me in this. He’s been skeptical in this venture, for sure. Starting a business is an enormous risk, but I keep getting pulled forward and he knows it’s what I love and people are loving it.

I felt compelled to make the statement I’ve been wanting to in my design this year. Pour into what I love. In last year’s show, I played it super safe for the first time. Everything was classic and very pretty. I picked a chandelier that was popular along with armed sconces that were on trend, but didn’t feel that excitement over it. This year, i wanted to feel excited about it, that I just loved it! In decorating the booth, I brought on small businesses that have products that I love. It’s my store, I need to sell what I love. Which includes natural products. I did what I could to incorporate them in an effort to show beautiful things in materials that are good to the environment.

The wood beaded chandelier was the game changer. I had a slim modern linear chandelier picked, but when I saw the large chandelier - that was IT! And IT, it was. It was the showstopper that people gushed over all weekend! I shop for deals and am able to offer it at a really great price.

From start to finish, the crowd spoke! Going with a design that excited me was definitely the right choice. I had a ton of great conversations with people who love to make statements too!

You know, life’s short. Fill it with all the things you love. Go for the big fixtures that grab you and make you say, “Wow! I love that!” Love your home. You will be so glad you did!

I would love to help you in your updates or new home build!

A Cozy Home Fall Collection 2020

Here are my favorites for this fall, folks! Lighting is Square One for a cozy home. These pieces work great with warm color palettes and look beautiful all year long.

I focused on creating layered lighting. The recessed lights are great for general ambient lighting, but turn them off for a cozy feel. Use the task lighting for evening activity like eating around the island with dimmed pendants. The drum chandelier would give beautiful warm light if hung next to a reading chair or the end of a couch. Use wall sconces for a warm light here and there. Read beneath bedside sconces. Add swing arm sconces over bookshelves or cabinets in the kitchen for an extra touch.

Let me know if you have questions, or want help with your lighting project!

Happy Fall!

Spring Sunshine

It’s SPRING! Hooray!!!

It seems we ALL need it more this year than I’ve ever noticed in the past. We’ve been more jealous of those who are escaping to somewhere warm! And grumbly as the cold, dark days drone on…

Yesterday though, the first day of spring, I shut off the furnace, opened the windows and the front door, and tried to let in as much sunshine as possible! It’s the light - we all want and need the light! It gives us energy, brightens our mood, and gets us moving. Brings us out of our cozy winter hibernation slumber, and gets us thinking about what we want to get busy doing.

Our house can give us that same energy! The lights and the colors help give us our mood. So it’s important to be intentional about it. At night, after supper, we often still want or need to be getting things done. We need to keep the energy going. We notice though how that light isn’t bright enough everywhere. In the past, we’d put a light in the center of the room and call it good. But now it’s different. In the lighting world, we think about the amount of brightness, or lumens, and the color temperature of the light, which is what you think of as the soft white bulbs or the daylight bulbs. This is the combination that determines the energy that you’ll get from your lighting.

Getting that right amount feels like a challenge in a current home. Where to start? …No lie, it’s a project. It’s adding recessed lights and picking the right bulbs for the space. Have you looked at Lowe’s wall of bulbs lately? It’s overwhelming even for me, and I get it! I can tell you though, tackling this project is worth its weight in gold!!!

I have a current client who told me off the bat that she wants a lot of light in her new home. The one she lives in just doesn’t have enough light and she’s always wanting it brighter. At the Home Show, a vast majority of the people that we talked to mentioned how they wanted more light. They have a fluorescent light in the kitchen that has to go! Those fluorescents need to go!

That’s why I’m here. I want to help you get that light that you’re wanting. I will walk through the project with you and be intentional about covering all of your home with good light. Light that will give you the energy and help you get your tasks done. Then, to be ready to dim it down and relax to catch up on those shows or your book… .

Enjoy your spring! Pull up the shades and open the windows. Feel the spring air and tackle some projects!!!

Shop our store, find some beautiful fixtures that you’d love to have, make a wishlist. We can have some fun finding you that perfect look!

xoxo~

Change

IMG-6154.JPG

I was reading the The Traditional Home magazine tonight and came upon this thought from a Q&A with designers.
Q: To that point, clients come to you for changes like that, yet they seem reticent to actually change. Why do you think change is so scary?
I loved this reply from one of the designers.
A: I think part of it is also believing in what you love already, right? The things you truly love, you're always going to love. You're going to look back on things from an old project and say, "I still love those things." So you can't let them instill doubt in you because they do that. They say, "Well, are you sure this is going to work?" or "You really like that?" and it makes you doubt yourself. You should never doubt the things you love.

I think that is the perfect start here. In this venture, my job isn't to put the things in your home that I love, but to help you find the things you love. They never have to be expensive, but you can love it when you see it.
I know you know what you love.... It's my job to help pull that out and give you a home you're excited to be in, that feels truly your own.
Not every chandelier has to be a big production. It can be just one and everything else is simple and understated, which would be beautiful.

For me, right now, it's this new chandelier for my new office. It represents this change in life. I found it a long time ago and still loved it. So I finally shopped around and found it for a better price than from the place where I originally found it. Deal!

The key is that I love it, and it makes the change worth it. ;)
